Import scanned mesh

Import 3D mesh from any 3D scanner into QUICKSURFACE

The mesh has to have topology so the format of the file should be OBJ, STL or PLY. The built-in polygon reduction function allows the user to use any size of mesh, and to reduce it with a suitable number of triangles without compromising the quality of the mesh.

Prepare Scan Wizard

Comprehensive mesh editing tools for reverse-engineering purposes

Designed to simplify scan data preparation for engineering workflows. Such tools include but are not limited to: polygon reduction, remove mesh outliers, defeature, hide/unhide selections, find and fill holes, make watertight/ unwatertight, and much more. Step-by-step workflow guides the user to setup the scan ready for remodeling.

Mesh Selection

Use the Interactive mesh selection Mesh Selection to mark the features.

Simple-to-use Mesh Selection tools of QUICKSURFACE allows quickly extracting areas of interest, such as planes, cylinders, spheres, free form patches, revolved and extruded surfaces.

Create primitives

Extract features and create primitives

Use the extracted features and quickly reconstruct planes, cylinders, cones, and spheres. You can establish relationships between them, such as perpendicularity, parallelism, and coincidence.

Align the mesh

Align mesh into the world coordinate system

Position the object into the world coordinate system using the extracted primitives. The interactive definition of the coordinate system allows the user to adjust the correct orientation of the object.

2D Sketching

Create 2D Sketches for Revolved and Extruded surfaces.

Interactive sectioning allows the user to extract reference points for 2D Sketching. Align the section plane to the extracted primitives, CAD faces or even create sections interactively on the screen. Use dimensions and constraints tools to create accurate sketches. Automatic sketching from the scan data is also available.

Trimming

Use Trim command to create connected surfaces as surfaces or solid bodies.

In ExModel Pro you can create surfaces or solids by using mutual trim operation or boolean operations on solids. The coloured display and diagnostic tools allow you to identify the issues while performing these operations.

Patterns

Build linear or circular patterns for repeated objects. Use also mirror object if needed.

To fulfil the requirements of precise 3D reverse engineering, generate repetitive patterns of objects by arranging them in linear or circular formations. When necessary, enhance symmetry by incorporating object mirroring.

Round edges

Create fillets or chamfers where needed.

The chamfer and fillet operations come with a real-time analyser. Simply drag the arrow to define the fillet radius on the screen and instantly observe the deviation of the fillets against the reference mesh—all in real-time.

Roll/ Unroll

Flatten and Reconstruct Curved Geometry with Precision

Designed to flatten or manipulate curved surfaces, this feature adds flexibility when working with complex geometries. The ability to unroll and roll back 2D sketches streamlines the workflow, making it especially effective for handling intricate shapes.

Export

Export the results to other packages for further use.

To finish you 3D Reverse engineering project export reconstructed surfaces or solid models for use in other packages using the industry standard format STEP or IGES.

Frequently Asked Questions

Looking for something specific? Let us know, and we’ll be happy to assist you.

What is QUICKSURFACE?

QUICKSURFACE is a standalone 64 bit software application that allows you to convert 3D Scan data into complete CAD model.

It provides you with the most important tools for 3D reverse engineering to reconstruct hybrid parametric CAD models.

Import, align and repair your STL meshes, extract geometries, sketches and free form surfaces.

Construct extruded and revolved shapes and finish with trimming, boolean and fillet operations. And all this in a simple and understandable workflow.

What can I do with QUICKSURFACE

3D Scanners can deliver the results as ‘meshes’. These meshes can be used for visualisation and 3D printing, but not for drawings, dimensioning and other operations.

You cannot use them in CAD packages as normal solids or surfaces. For this reason these meshes need to be converted into ‘CAD model’ – a parametric representation of the forming surfaces.

The scanned meshes also capture all the imperfections of the original part. In order to make it perfect you need the tools for reverse engineering which QUICKSURFACE offers.

What are the minimum system requirements to run QUICKSURFACE?

The minimum system requirements are:

Laptop or PC with Windows 10 (64 Bit version)

CPU: Intel i5 or higher (or its equivalent of another CPU manufacturer)

RAM: 16GB

HDD: 256 GB

Graphics card: dedicated graphics card – nVidia or AMD

Internet: Software and licenses are delivered and activated using Internet connection.

Once activated we recommend an internet connection to allow automatic newer version detection to keep you up to date (not mandatory, it is your choice).

Which file formats from 3D Scanning QUICKSURFACE can import?

QUICKSURFACE imports STL, OBJ or PLY mesh or PTX point cloud.

The most common file format which is exported from a 3D Scanner is STL mesh.

Can I use a large 3D scan data?

Being a 64-bit application allows the user to load any size mesh. QUICKSURFACE can handle easily 100 million triangles.

For the purposes of manipulation, the build-in polygon reduction function allows the user to create a mesh with suitable number of triangles without compromising the quality of the mesh.
